I am installing a Thetford toilet and black tank in a cargo truck/van and want to know does it matter if I use ABS or pvc pipe.I won't have much length of pipe just a short piece from toilet straight down to the black tank and on the tank a waste valve which is the ABS material. Can the pvc be glued to the ABS valve, should I get all ABS pipe for the install and what size for the vent pipe is suggested.Normally the vent pipe in all installs I have seen like houses/campers the vent pipe goes staright to the roof but could I route it to the underside and not through the van roof so I would not have to cut out a hole in the van roof. Thanks

You can use all ABS for waste. You'd need Transition Cement ( ordinarily green) for a PVC to ABS connections. You can route the vent piping anyway you want but if you terminate it underneath the van the sewer gasses may filter into the living area. It's probably not going to be very pretty running up the outside wall.

Thanks for your advice.I can diy pretty good but this is kinda new don't wanna do something not right.I was trying to not have to drill a hole in the roof but that is the best option and it's only 2" maybe 2 1/2 finding the correct fittings locally is a challenge that's why I was looking to just use all pvc for the pipe and use the ABS drain flipper valve on the tank drain..Thanks

1 1/2" is perfectly fine for a waste vent. If you have a big box hardware, there will be completely separate section for waste and drainage with most any fitting you'd find for 1 1/4" and up pvc. An ACE or most any local mom and pop hardware should have those fittings as well. PVC is perfectly okay as well, just could cost slightly more.
