Having a 5th wheel means I need to take my propane tank to someone for refilling. I have been laying the tank down in the bed very secured. Now, after 3+ years doing this I finally learned it should only be transported upright very secured.

Is this really a big deal or just “old ways”. I could transport upright but then I couldn’t do other shopping because the tank is taller than my bed. I do have a bedcover that protects it from theft when out of sight but laying down.

Because if the pressure relief valve trips open while a full tank is on its side ( a hot summer day) liquid could be released.
