I have found this Mopeka sonar tank level sensor when trying to solve a hot air balloon dilemma. This sensor has proven to be very accurate, easy to install, and it interfaces with smartphones to provide user defined notifications. It is far superior to the F, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 & E.

It can work on vertical AND horizontal tanks.

Since installing this sensor, I have had 2 refills. The fill stop point is by the OPD (overfill protection device) at approximately 80%. Calculating the remnants before the full, the sonar quantity after the fill and comparing the delivery, the accuracy is amazing. Fill #1 was off by 0.2 gallons. Fill #2 had an error of 0.4 gallon.

By the way…the comparison of the mechanical gauge against the sonar was close, but not a linear error. Differences were positive on the full half of the tank and negative on the empty side.

Now, it’s irregardless to me since I know there’s a very strong relationship between the sonar and the delivery truck meter.
