Just got off the phone with Newmar Customer Service and she couldn't answer my questions. I asked if i could send an email. She said it would end up with customer service and wouldn't be forwarded to the service center crew in the back.

I can't use the original holes because one snapped off when taking off the old one.
I also did a search w/o success.

I used a bit size I would normally use on a typical 2x4/2x6 stud wall and at approx. 1.5"s in I hit a substance that caused me to strip the phillips screw head. I also used soap on the screw to make it easier.... Obviously I used a bit too small. I could keep increasing the bit size until success but don't want "screw up".

For those who have drilled new holes and installed a replacement shower seat in a Newmar.
1) Do you know the size bit to use?
2) Do I need a 3" long bit?
3) Do you know the substance/material used in the shower wall because it's not wood?
Thanks in advance for your response/s!

A friend gave me the great idea to get stainless self taping screws from Fastenal. Able to determine they're a size 10 screw. Will still use a smaller bit diameter to drill a pilot hole prior to using the self taping screw. Fastenal calls them self drilling screws.
Don't need a 3" long bit.
Was reported that it's an aluminum plate holding up the seat.

This was posted on another forum. Great picture

Too, the problem with self tapping screws is usually operator error, ie., overtightening and spinning out. Once it taps in back off the pressure and ease it snug. Sans a clutch on the driver short pulses on the trigger will keep you from spinning out.

Thanks! Mine is on an inner wall that's just over 3" thick in the shower. I don't hit the plate until approx 1.5". I can back off once drilled through the plate.

is it by chance where the pocket door is... that could lead to other hardware in the wall

No, the pocket door is on the opposite wall (besides the sinks). In one of the pilot holes, I checked the depth with a piece of wire. Exactly 3" deep from the shower wall. Just waiting till Friday afternoon to pick up the screws..
