I want to clean my black tank and I have had a few people tell me to use Rid X mixed in with water full to the top. Let it sit for a week or more and then dump and rinse a few time. Anyone tried Rid X?

I use cascade liquid. Seems to have worked best for me.

Unless you have done something to cause a severe solid build up, I would think that the Calgon or dawn heavy mix with a full tank sitting for 24-48hr would solve the situation. I do this a PM in the black and gray tanks once a year, and then use them without ever doing backwash or other treatments year round.

I keep the gray closed when in use and drain at 80% routinely. Same with black tank, but I suspect everyone treats black that way.

The most harm I have seen is to gray tanks that are left open routinely. Grease and food scum build on walls and smell.

How much Dawn do you use?

I probably use too much, but I have those small dollar general sizes and use the whole thing

Since I started using Cascade Liquid DishWASHER detergent I haven't had any issues with my level sensors. I use about ¾ cups in each tank when they are at least 50% full. Drive for a day and you will be amazed at the black gunk that comes out which I assume is mold.

The problem I had when using Dawn is that it suds so badly that it's hard to get all the suds out, which interferes with the sensors.

Rid X is used in septic systems and unless you fill your tanks and let them set for several weeks, it will not do much good. It takes bacteria weeks or maybe months to have any effect. Maybe add a little tofu!;);)
