If thie is in the wrong place please move.
2012 Crossroads Cameo 5th Wheel bought new. Typical surface rust in a few areas. Worse place fold down entrance stairs frame work. Any suggestionns of rust inhibitor and paint. Former auto body man, VERY former, LOL! Had great luck with OSPHO yrs ago. What is everyone using today before paint? Thanks

For outdoor items on RV and trailer have had great experience with Rustoleum.
First hit with the rust inhibitor and then followed up with their 2x ultra coverage.
4 years later, the heavy metal trailer lock cover (which takes a lot of abuse) still looks really good with no signs of any rust.

OSPHO is a brand name. It's phosphoric acid, same today as it was 50 years ago. 1. Scale the rust off the affected area 2. Brush it clean.3. Dose it liberally with phosphoric acid 4. Allow it to dry, I'd give it a day 5. Brush it clean again 6. Prime ( we used red lead way back when, not sure if it's still around though) Most any quality bonding primer is okay 7. Paint
If you've ever decked on a steel boat or ship, the first thing they hand you is a chipping hammer and a wire brush, both of which you'll become very familiar.
* You can still buy OSPHO btw.

I just painted my utility trailer with rostolium hammered paint. It requires no sanding even though I did sand the bad rust areas on the finders. Very happy with the results. The paint has a adhesive in it that makes it stick better. Ace Hardware sells it and it does hide small imperfections very well. My trailer looks great.
Hopes this helps.
