Took my coach in for its annual chassis service (oil, lub). Last year it was $300. This year it is $500. Almost a 70% increase. A sign on the wall said the shop rate is now $230/hour. Last year it was $150. This is a Freightliner Oasis Service Center in the Iowa. What's it like in your area?

That's about the going rate here. It makes me feel good I can still do the service myself.

And I get looks of horror when I tell people I charge about half that. And I come to you........but to be fair, those people generally don't own Tiffin's and Newmar's.

Geez and I feel bad charging my customers $50.00 an hour for service.

That's nuts...hopefully people simply refuse to pay that rate...not long ago that would get you a decent lawyer 😊
Blessings

Although I'm old and Gullian-Barre makes it tough to crawl around under a motorhome, for $230 an hour I'll change my own fluids, ABS sensors, filters, etc. and feel I earned my keep 😉 "Things" are simply getting out of hand...at some point it's going to shatter like a broken windshield! In California, the monopoly gas company bill has increased 300% in the past six months...once one begins adding it all up, he can't even afford a dozen eggs.
Blessings

Tech noticed the coolant was slightly low and took the initiative to pressure the coolant system and detected a leak. Called me and I authorized an hour of labor to find the leak. They found it was a loose clamp buried in some hidden place I would never know to look. $230 was a bargain compared to the alternative of a problem on the road.

Straight up oil change I could probably do. Lubing the chassis, probably not. There are a fair number of zerks to locate on a truck chassis, I'm guessing a powered lube gun was needed.

And I don't have the knowledge and equipment to pressurize a coolant system.

When I get quality service like this, I accept it will be expensive. Frankly, if I was doing this for a living, I would likely charge a similar rate.

Natural gas prices are way up nationwide. The last I checked the average family has lost 7K the last 2 years. I feel sorry for the younger generation trying to make ends meet.

Blessings to you Scooterfan, good on your with your illness to keep plugging. I’m curious do you know how you got it? We know someone “who believes” they got it from required vaccine for visiting foreign country.

My wife (believes) she got it(Gullian-Barre) from a flu vaccine, denied by workman's comp and later (not long after) developed SPS or Stiff Person Syndrome. No one ever heard of it until Celine Dion came down with it. For many it is very serious. I have not had a flu shot in so long I cant remember the last one and most certainly did not get the more recent experimental jab. Also my younger brother developed the blood clots after a mandatory J&J shot so he could travel for work. That caused other issues as well.
Back on topic, I change my own oil and do any service I can or have time to on my 3500 Ram. All fluids I have done myself. I installed a Fumato oil pan drain that makes it so much easier to drain the pan. Look them up online and see if they make one for your engine.

Just noticed this thread...sorry! Although there is much evidence that vaccines have contributed to the onset of Guillain-Barre, most cases are traced to an upper respiratory infection. That's what led to my onset. It's a real eye-opener auto-immune syndrome as your own system begins to destroy your nerve endings. Over a period of one week I went from a strong and in-shape (old guy) to being unable to walk (my legs were paralyzed.) As it moved up my body my arms and hands were affected. Breathing became difficult. After two trips to ER, I finally went to a neurosurgeon who diagnosed me in 2 minutes. Rushed to ER a spinal tap confirmed it. Seven days of Infusions stopped the progression and five years thus far of recovery have gained back around 75% of original strength. It's a very rare syndrome with about 5% of the cases leading to death, 20% never recover fully and 75% fully recover. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

For anyone who wants to pressure test their cooling system, most auto parts store have one you can borrow with a deposit.
