I will take the word of someone "in real life" that has learned the knowledge by actually having performed the task.

Go ahead but the world is now spending $2 trillion a year on AI technology. This is a big bet if all it takes is to ask someone "in real life" for the answer.

I will follow the money.

But the problem is you will not know what "brain" is talking. I guess you have not noticed many posters are just copy/pasting an AI response and representing it as their own. I think the best solution (if we need one) is that we ask anyone pasting an AI response to clearly give that response proper attribution, just like we do with copyrighted material, then the forum participant knows who is talking. Hard to enforce but it would just be a recommendation for participants in the forum.
Exactly! Hence my statement in the 3rd paragraph:
"It's hard enough to cipher through people's responses who've merely used "AI" for the answer to your question. Again, my humble opinion is the age-old phrase: "if I wanted your (AI) opinion, I'll ask for it.""

Can you give us example about how this is done? I have AI in Gmail that is constantly giving corrections to grammar and phrasing but it is opt in, not required.

I believe, at this point, they we're only modifying thread titles saying it made them more descriptive and made searching more efficient. They said you could opt out of seeing the changes but they would be changed none the less. I won't go into all the issues I have with this.

I didn't hang around to see the full effect of the changes only to see they were happening and then I quietly left the building.

And I'm not a luddite, I worked in IT for three of the biggest computer manufacturers for over 32 years before consulting in said field. There's a time and place for AI and I don't think this is one of them, certainly not changing people's prose.

There will be no AI integration here. I don't care if people use google search, chatGPT, Gemini, Grok, or whatever. Do your research, trust but verify, but we are talking to humans here, not bots.
Thank you

It's really farirly easy to pick out those posters who use AI extensively with no attribution. There is an ignore function on this forum that works very well so I can easily avoid reading their posts entirely. Easy/peasy.

I, too, am no luddite. I use AI for many things in my profession, every day.

I come here to talk to, and get advice from, people who share some of the same passions as I do and may have encountered the issues I have or will have.

Would you like to see AI results eliminated from this forum?
HEY...KEVIN,

You've gotta faulty poll!

I just noticed that your Title contradicts your question...a double-negative, if you will.

I answered the question that's attached to the POLL: "You're opinion, don't allow AI responses on this forum."

To which I voted "YES", don't allow them.

But, notice that the same team is voting "NO", probably to the TITLE of this thread....

Darnnit...another messed up election. Reminds me of the way every Proposition is worded! 🤪

Oh please not here, I've already left one forum b/c they in introduced AI that would actually change people's words/sentences.
I think I'd have to agree - I certainly USE artificial intelligence and appreciate it, but when I'm in a forum I simply want an exchange of ideas and solutions from REAL PEOPLE who have likely experienced what I have. I can guarantee you that no AI engine has ever experienced a leaky toilet bowl in an RV or their plastic furnace fan disintegrating and failing in the middle of a 22-degree night.

Many times AI comes in handy for certain tasks, but as others have said - it's the human element that makes forums what they are (and should remain).

But, I'm sure other humans will disagree - and that's fine.

To clarify my response: NO, I do not want AI to be allowed on the forum.

Honestly, I see ZERO purpose for a HUMAN USER forum. I come here to talk to REAL people, honestly, no matter how much negative that carries with it.

I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with the fact that if we wanted to "hear AI's opinion", we'd ask for it...elsewhere; like Grok, Chat, Gemini, etc.

It's hard enough to cipher through people's responses who've merely used "AI" for the answer to your question. Again, my humble opinion is the age-old phrase: "if I wanted your (AI) opinion, I'll ask for it."

Well stated Captain

I can tell you, I use AI all day every day in software development. It's amazing, it's unreal, I've done two years of work in the past two months! Yes, layoffs are going to happen as they already are. IMHO it's far superior to web search such as google search, well, it already integrates it. I've had numerous discussions with chatGPT on retirement planning, medical issues, life events, on and on, and I really like it. I use Claude Desktop for more technical stuff and it's solved problems I haven't been able to solve for years on the IT side. It's created things I could never do without it. The list goes on.

Yes, it's very apparent some here respond non stop with only AI responses. It's easy to see when you don't engage your brain and you just go out and ask AI for the response and reply to everything not from you but from AI queries. Sure, we can learn from AI research, but when it's your every response, your credibility is affected IMHO, we don't want to hear that, we want your mistakes, opinions, right or wrong. We learn from each other's mistakes. I have stories of many of mine on here.

If you're not using AI in some form or another, I do believe you are missing out. I do suggest installing chatGPT on your phone and/or computer and give it a try. Various flavors have their own such as Claude, Gemini, Grok, etc. I pay for some of my AI tools, it's well worth it. I don't pay for chatGPT but use it quite a bit for more general life, investment strategies, etc.

Just my $.02 but again, I do encourage checking out the AI apps if you haven't done so or you're afraid to get into that but it is amazing stuff. Google search has its place too but rest assured it's now using AI for you.

Edit: I have not been on the road for a bit but when I get back out I do need to remember to give chatGPT a try for things such as what to do near me or places to eat. Things we'd use Yelp or Trip Advisor for in the past. Try the AI tools for those RVing and see how it compares for RV type of things whether it's finding hiking trails, biking, NASCAR activities, whatever. You'll be amazed and I look forward to using it when I'm back out RVing.

Sorry guys! Sometimes I reverted to 5 year old speech patterns. Trying to fix it. Or maybe I absorbed gov speak along the way.😏

Kevin asked to have this title changed and I got it wrong. I just edited to what he wanted.

Your opinion

Do you want discussions limited to human interaction, without AI distraction?

How about we just remove the poll?

Honestly, as we do research on topics and things we plan and plan to do, that’s using AI. So how do you not use in some way?
So a response someone has to a question, may be an AI response. 🤷‍♂️

Asking for a friend.
