Dear Friends:
I will take a moment away from reconfiguring the entire network to explain what happened. I cannot say I'm sorry enough and I'm embarrassed and ashamed on behalf of my data center (Databank) that caused this outage. It was completely out of my control and I'm just thankful to finally have this saga resolved as the data center was not communicating with me effectively causing a lot of stress as I don't tolerate ANY downtime.
I apologize for not having everyone on the email blast that I sent out this morning which I delayed from last night hoping things would come online before I raided your inboxes but my list was only up to date from when I announced this forum theme upgrade as I don't typically send out mail blasts. So many of you and most of the recent additions had no idea what was going on.
For the techies and in full transparency of what happened. I've been in this data center since it was first constructed around 20 years ago. It has undergone probably 5 ownership changes since. I've enjoyed having my own rack space with great service to date, no complaints at all. It seems the data center didn't do whatever they should have done to take ownership of my IP address block (60 IP addresses) and whoever owns them cut them off and wasn't playing nice in giving them back. I had a feeling this is what it was as the IP addresses weren't resolving, etc. The data center was a little lax in their aggressiveness to resolve this situation even with my constant pushing for answers. Today they finally told me what I knew and we got a new IP address block assigned so things are coming online now.
I again apologize for this and I'm just glad to be back online. As with anything bad I always try to come out the other side better. We all learn from situations like this and I'll be looking for a backup server option such as Azure or similar offering down the road as RVF is growing rapidly and we are at all time highs in viewership with nearly 2 million views a month now and members coming on board rapidly. I hope that continues barring this incident.
Thanks again for being here and it's great to see you all again. I appreciate your understanding.
Neal
