MY Company built this frac sand facility in the Permian basin in 2020, I had over 200 men on MY payroll, I'd guess at least half were Hispanic, we did fantastic, on time and under budget, all skilled tradesman, no accidents or osha violations, you don't know what your talking about

you had to ask, Really?
Yeah. I'm a direct person, so I think sometimes people confuse that with being angry or bent out of shape, not calm, etc. If someone has a booger sticking out of their nose, I'm the person who will tell them that.
And I'm a talker...who has a great memory for the strangest things, mostly cocktail conversation things.

If people are goingn to impute motivations upon others characters, fine, but I'd like for them to demonstrate their logic in that reasoning. I do in mine and if anyone ever is in doubt, just ask me.

Be advised though, I type 80 w/m, so it can be long.....

Don't know what is surprising about this. Going back to the 90s most new construction jobs have been 80 plus percent mexican, depending upon where it's taking place of course.

All of your workers were skilled tradesmen? That is sort of new on me I guess as the jobs I've been on there are skill levels throughout the trades. When a new person comes in, they're usually labor, then work up to helper, etc. I can tell how green/new they are as sometimes they come up to me and would ask to borrow a pencil. Or come and take something of ours as they were told to get get it...and that's what they did, us being the first people he ran across who had it. Like I said, I can speak spanish so I told him where to go.....[joke]

A good gc usually leads to a good job. It's the subs who can be the problems and some GCs don't supervise them very well at times. And the more complex the job, the less the GCs do and more subs there just for the job.

LMAO stereotype much? My framers work was like a furniture joint. Who trained them, My lead carpenter and myself. Who knew what kind of quality I expected, each and everyone of them.
How someone could paint a broad brush and claim someone is not skilled because they come from another country shows who they are.
Just because you or someone you know had talent has nothing to do with what others have observed in the industry. Your quality was not one iota better then mine and I refused to work in the industry here. After a couple of years of installing custom cabinets in unreal crooked homes I got away from that also.

Guess you never worked for me.
No subs on my jobs, all my men pass a skills test and work directly for my Company, but of of course some laborers, somebody's gotta fetch the bolts, water, etc. maybe that Spanish speaking laborer was you?

I did also pulled back on what I would do and the last 10 years mostly working for others as an employee. Let them deal with the stuff they get paid more to deal with. In doing remods, I also came to dislike homeowners if I had to deal with them on any level other than swinging a hammer.

People tend to take their own experiences and disperse that upon others. I used to have people telling me what construction was like in denver...while they were living in alabama or some place around there.
I also had a finance guy tell me there was hardly any illegals in the trades.

Just crazy what and who is out there sometimes.
One thing I've never understood is for the calls for people to ignore another poster on boards. Well, this forum is a general discussion one, so I'm assuming most anything goes. So any topic may sprout wings at any time.

And if a person is reading the thread in the general discussion forum and responding to comments in it, why do some people want them to stop and not do what they are doing? They must be getting some satisfaction out of it or they'd not be doing it, especially in threads that run multiple pages.

So never understood that unless their intention is to shut down conversation between others. And if that's the case, then why on earth are they reading in the GD section, in a thread they probably don't like....that usually goes on for multiple pages? Like I say, "People are people"

But that just shows that you are generalizing AND bias against hispanics. The average employment with my construction company was 21 years. Unheard of in a transient, job to job industry. I am starting to feel racist by stating that I found hispanics to be honest, ethical, and talented. I should not have to "call" them out but thats what this thread has become.
Well besides my construction company, I owned a custom cabinet shop. Its pretty clear that any decent carpenter expects that he will be dealing with walls that are not plumb or square. Whether due to poor framing of settlement, it happens. Some folks just cannot handle the work and its admirable that you saw that and stepped away from that work

My company was in the chicago suburbs, very diverse employment base, great team

So you must be pretty specific in your work. Like I said, GCs in some jobs can need a lot of dif trades, so they employ a lot of different subs for that job. Then they're done with them....until the next job they get....and the subs want to work on.

I've also said with all the white americans not wanting to work, there's been a great transfer of skills and knowledge being lost. It's being transferred to the mexicans. And over time, the mexicans move up and then mexicans are teaching mexicans like the americans once taught them.
Then the mexicans start getting jobs themselves. And then use mexican employees or subs...and the remaining whites complain about "where's all the jobs?!?!"
I guess I should have put "over time the following happens" or "happened". I figured it was common sense for anyone in the trades for a long period of time, being able to see the changes that have taken place.

So do you think I'm a mexican? Mexicans are laborers?
After a career in corporate--probably in a corporation you are familiar with--I decided to get into the trades. I was 40 with a masters degree in business and wanted a change of direction. I had some background, but not in the trade my bud had his business in, so I started out as a helper, then worked my way up. And yes, that meant I cleaned up after the job. I've never been above working. Just the kinda person I was.

As my goal was to get the whole job myself and/or be able to relocate most anywhere and be able to work, new construction, remods, tenant finish, commercial, residential....I branched out into other trades to learn them. Each move I did, I started further up in that chain as I had more tools in my toolbox so to speak.

I read books on other trades at night, then worked during the days. That was my RV/van days, going from area to area, job to job. My mentors were old white guys who grew up in their respective trade. It was the best thing I ever did.

So I'm the spanish speaking laborer? Do you see how continuously condescending you are? Why is this so emotional to you?
I try to stay on track and not allude any characteristics upon others. Someone even mentioned foxnews at me too as a means to belittle me.

So again, should I hit the ignore button on you or you on me?
I'll talk about anything with anyone. I'm like that as my background shows.
This is a general discussion section so again, would you please take the condesention and personal attacks at me somewhere else? I don't mid them, but apparently it's bothering some other people.

Please, mutual ignore
