My lovely wife was wondering if we have to have the generator running while we drive to get power in the camper? The fridge runs on propane also. Just wondering about phone charging and other silly stuff she should not worry about.

no such thing as stupid questions everyone that gets a new rig has operational questions.
Answer: It depends on what you want to run. The fridge is normally 12v so it will run off battery/propane only. The high demand items like ac or microwave, TV will probably need a generator or shore power. The plug in items phone charger, clocks, will depend if your rig is equipped with an inverter. No inverter no outlet power.
Hope this helps

Your house batteries should be enough for charging phones and running the 'fridge. I run my generator so I can use the house A/C units to keep up cool. It's HOT down here in the South!!!
