For what it's worth, when we upgraded our toad last year, I wanted to go with a Subaru product with manual transmission. My research, at the time, indicated any Subaru product I was interested in was older than I wanted to acquire. My research further indicated this applied to Subaru products with manual transmissions also due to AWD.
I would assume you would be able to search on line for towing instructions for your year & model. I'm sure there must be a Subaru forum that would address this issue.
