This is disgusting.....but I think common

Last RV I bought, this was the fresh water tank. When I commented on the color, the previous owner's response was "we don't drink that."
Still disgusting--to me anyway. You wash your dishes in that. Shower with that. Brush your teeth with that. You're spreading fungus/mold through your water pump, lines and water heater. Heck, just having a biological warfare lab inside my RV is enough to gross me out.

Do you/is this common? Since then I've asked people and a lot don't drink from their 'fresh water tank', so I guess never checked it.
Someone could make a lot of money if they 'invented' a bottom, as in the underside of the tank, drain on fresh water tanks.
The problem is they are unicorns as much as I can tell, so there will always be 3/4 of an inch in the bottom of the tank...and that's a recipe for a fungus factory.

Half considering cutting a hole and putting in a hatch on top so at the end of the season or as part of routine maintenance, I can sponge out all of the water there, leaving no standing water.

We never use ours for drinking water. I usually sanitize it once or twice a year, depending on usage. Actually, we stay at campgrounds 99% of the time, so I usually just run off the campground's water (through two filters and water softener) and keep the tank at about 30-50% for use when on the road for toilets and such. We always use bottled water for drinking.

We are full time.

Sanitize yearly, tank water is replaced monthly to keep it fresh. We use what is in the tank before the month is up rather than just drain.

Use it for everything - drinking, ice maker in fridge, etc.

No issues with the water.

We also have a three filter setup outside along with a water softener and the whole house filter.

Same with us and we have multiple filters plus we do a bit of a test of the water before we fill.

We use our tank water as we mostly dry camp/boondock. We have a two stage system with 0.05 micron and 0.02 micron filters. Both are changed every 6 months when we sanitize. Someday, I need to install a better tank drain.
