While on my retirement trip last summer traveling from Florida to Colorado I encountered an issue with the coach. I was pulling a dual axle cargo trailer with a weight of 5000 lbs. The coach weight and the Cargo trailer weight combined was around 17000 lbs. The issue which occurred on multiple occasions was the coach would without warning shutdown indicating a fuel issue of some sort. Replaced the fuel module several times. Several costly visits to ford who gave us no help at all and could not find the problem.
They did provide the following explanation after replacing the fuel pump, Fuel Filter & PC Module." The PC Module they felt was receiving an overheating code telling the PCM to shut down in which the PCM sent aa signal to the fuel module to shut down. There were multiple times on the interstate systems the unit would shut down in traffic, and I would pray that I could get to the shoulder without causing an accident. I can attest to the fact that it was not overheating. In fact, the other day back in Florida temp.45 degrees left my home made it 6 miles from the house, same issue, I disconnected the trailer brakes thinking that maybe an issue with the plug. I made it another 6 miles, same issue it shut down. I then disconnected the cargo trailer from the coach and drove the unit back to the house with no issue. This whole issue ruined my vacation last year and no one seems to be able to help me. The coach has a gasoline ford 350 V10 motor. Please help.

Ford has an excellent tool to diagnose problems. Ford FDRS, or Ford Diagnostic and Repair System, is the official factory diagnostic software developed by Ford Motor Company. It provides dealership-level diagnostics, troubleshooting, module programming, and repair capabilities for Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

The problem is few Ford dealers can keep the technicians proficient with this tool. The tool is available to anyone for a fee and can be found in some excellent private shops specializing in Ford products. I would suggest you seek out one of those shops that specialize in the Ford V10 engine.

From Gemini: Transmission overheating (~250°) can cause the pcm to enter limp mode or shut the engine down. Check that the airflow to the transmission cooler is unimpeded. Assume you are towing with Tow/Haul mode engaged? T/H keeps the transmission in the lower gears longer between shifts and helps prevent overheating of the tran. fluid.
Check too that the chassis battery ground cable is not loose or corroded.
Check that the ICM, ignition control module, isn't overheating during towing. A misfire code for (PO300/PO310) indicates an issue with the ICM.
Have the computer scanned for history codes, even if ok now, it may tell the past reason it shut down.
