I have a 27 foot Forest River Wildwood, tandem axle camper. GVW is 7530, dry weight is 4740, axlw weight 4210. I'm replacing the tires, size ST205/175/15. I never pull the unit weighing over 5,000 LBS. Question is should I used load range D or E?
First and foremost what is the recomended tire specifications for the specific trailer or unit? Then see if there is an alternative?
Keep in mind travel trailer and vehicle tires are technically different tires! Travel trailer tires have an “ST” designation which supposedly mean they have stiffer sidewalls than say vehicle tires! Also keep in mind that just because your using a higher rated tire doesn’t mean it’s weight rating has increased!
FYI an “E” rated tire basically means it’s a 10ply tire which are normally used on light trucks, but can be substituted on trailers if load capacity warrants…. In the end knowing the exact gross weight of your rig will determine your tires load capacity, but again increasing tire capacity doesn’t mean you can up your gross weight!!
