Just curious, what insurance company asked about the mileage on the toad?

Nationwide.

My jeep definitely does not register towed miles on the odometer. I bought it with 72,000 on it. Ive towed it about 7000. It now reads 72,400. I often see jeep adds on Craigslist claiming many of the miles showing on the odometer were towing. I only hope that potential buyers know better.

The odometer reading is usually taken from the transmission not the wheels. If the transmission is not moving your odometer will not move.

I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that I flat tow. It gets towed with the key off and the transmission in park. I don't see how it could possibly be racking up any miles on the odometer. I'll have to check it out next month on my trip.

When your transfer case is in neutral, the output shaft of the trans is not turning while you are towing and thus not spinning the speedo drive.

Owned my Jeep since 2012. Bought it new. Has 52k on it, been towed 50k+. Odometer shows 52k
