Can anyone tell me the torque spec on a 1998 American Eagle, 40' coach 325hp Cat engine. Is this a "capable" engine in terms of power to climb through mountain ranges or long steep grades?
Thank you in advance for your advice and info.
I'm assuming you have a Cat 3126 engine since they came out in 1997. About 300 hp was the max and they made approximately 800 lb/ft of torque. Max HP was rated at 2800 RPM so this is a small diesel that you have to turn the piss out of to get the power out of it. As long as you don't bring everything from home with you, this engine will do fine. In the mountains it will help if you don't get in a big hurry and you'll need to down shift on the long grades. However, it will get the job done. Be aware that they had a problem of dropping valves and cracking blocks, mostly in marine applications due to boaters running the engines at 100% plus to get their boats up on a plane. They did better in delivery trucks.
