Where do you drop off U.S. FLAGS ready for retirement? When at home I could go to my VFW but my home moves every 2-3 weeks now.

Any local VFW or AL post will accept them; many VA hospitals will also accept them - look for a container outside the entrance...

I live in a rural community not close to a VFW or American Legion. So I dispose of my flags in a private ceremony.

The proper way to dispose of a worn-out American flag is to destroy it in a dignified manner, with the approved method being ceremonial burning. You can drop off your flag at organizations like the American Legion or VFW, which often hold retirement ceremonies. If you must burn it yourself, ensure a large fire to completely consume the flag and then bury the ashes, always respecting local fire codes. Alternatively, you can bury the flag in a dignified container after folding it, or take it to a textile recycler.
