All my experience says there should be a trap door locked or not that has a hole to put a hose in to fill the tank. The idea is to keep from putting pressure on a tank not designed for water pressure. I admit I don't have experience on any other type of water fill so don't know about high end rvs. I typically modify the method of fill to suit my attention span.
I add a hose to the tank drain and fill from the bottom of the tank using a hose bib fitting. The standard fill is then the overflow.
