Hey guys! We are gearing up for a trip to visit family in Colorado Springs. Leaving South Louisiana with stops in Austin, Abilene, Balmoreah, Ruidoso and Albuquerque. Can anyone help us in choosing comfortable RV parks? Spacious sites, full hook ups, drive through sites, trees and scenery are all appreciated. Water side is a huge plus.
My daughter lived in Round Rock, near Austin, and we've tried a few places. My personal favorite is Berry Springs in Georgetown because of its location next to a large park with extensive walking trails.
Easy on/off with Toll Road 130. No pull-through that I recall.
San Gabriel RV Park nearby looked promising, but we never stayed there because my daughter moved closer to the heart of Austin.
So, this past Christmas we stayed at Austonia RV Park in deValle. It's brand new and very nice except it has no showers yet. It's also easy access to Austin. We've never stayed in that older one in Austin because we couldn't get reservations. We will probably be trying the Austin East KOA holiday in early August.
In Abilene, the whistle stop RV resort looked good to us. The first time we stayed in Abilene, we stayed at Ridgeview and it was brand new but terrible management - dirty restrooms, unfinished, broken sites.
(On a side note, As you travel from Austin northwest, be aware that if you have Verizon there's some big holes in center of Texas where you will have zero bars.)
In Albuquerque, we have stayed at the Central KOA Holiday and thought it was very nice (the beautiful weather might have influenced us). We love Thai Vegan, have driven out of our way to eat there. Nondescript, in a strip mall, but exceptionally good food. That's just our opinion.
Lots to see and do in Alb.
we have stayed in Carlsbad but not in an RV park. I don't think I've ever been to Ruidoso. Las Cruces. yes, but not in an RV. We'll be in Colorado Springs ourselves in mid-ish August, spending a couple nights at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. we travel through Texas to Colorado often but we always take a route through Amarillo..
