I own a 2022 superstar 4059 and I’m having black tank sensor issues. I keep seeing suggestions about resetting a control pad to 42 and turning a salesman switch on and off. I guess my question is where is the salesman switch located and how do I go about reconfiguring the sensor code to 42? I’ve also read about Newmar ditching the KIB tank sensors in favor of a fluid pressure sensor next to the dump valve and I would greatly appreciate more information about this as well?

As you enter your rig, look to the left and you will see a toggle switch with a red light. That is your battery disconnect, i.e., salesman switch. That is where it is located on the DSDP and LADP, so I'm assuming that is where yours is located too.

Here is a thread on the pressure sensor.

I don't know anything about a sensor code reconfig to 42; however, if you know your tank is empty or not full AND you are connected to city water AND you need to flush the toilet - you can remove the fuse in your half bath for "Monitor Panel and Water Pump" (mine is F8) and you will be able to flush.

Hope this helps!

The so-called salesman switch (I HATE that term…pet peeve of mine) which is more accurately called the battery disconnect switch, is normally located near the entry door.

In other words, what my friend @ARD said.

Perhaps @JRW-NAW can chime in since they also have a Superstar.

Hahah! I hate that term too. Glad I'm not the only one! 🤪

Thanks soooo much! and my wife thanks you even more!!

Switch should be under the panel above the entry door same as our 22 4061.

Will be the one in the lower left that has the red light on it.

That will open the battery disconnect, wait a few seconds then flip it back on.

We had to do it for our light switches on our 22 4061 until we got the new software loaded in April.

For the tank levels couple things - ours was not calibrated properly in the black tank. There are three things configured for the black tank tied to the flush of the toilet.
1. Calibrated properly you should get a yellow light in the flush switch at 75% on the black tank.
2. When it reaches 100% based on the tank level the yellow turns red and you can’t flush normally.
3. There is also a fail safe float at the top of the tank that will close when the tank is full and shut off the normal flush.

We were hitting #3 above since the calibration of our level indicator was reading 40% low. So we hit 60% indicated and were actually full.

As our indications were incorrect use caution when overriding the “can’t flush due to full” because it may actually be hitting the float fail safe.

I believe the Superstar has the ultrasonic and not the pressure sensor. At least our 22s.

I have seen reference to the pressure sensors and think those are in the class a’s for now.

Thanks for the informative reply! I do know that the yellow light comes on at 75% the red light at 95% so, I guess that the sensors are calibrated right we’re full timing in our rig at this time. I’ve almost always left the black tank valve open. Occasionally opening the black tank washers and filling/ flushing the tank at least 3 times to help keep things clean. After all of this due diligence I’m pretty sure that a dirty/ full tank is not the problem. I used to own a 44’ 5th wheel toy hauler with 2 bathrooms and maintenance was a lot easier without macerators….

I'm with you there, coming from 24 years of boating that's the battery switch; way to dumb it down.

I think it’s dumbed down for salesmen out of necessity, not the customer.

They seem to perpetuate it.

Leaving the black valve open is not recommended as it can cause pyramiding. You may indeed need a very good cleaning. 😬

How about Cntrl-alt-delete 😜

Yeah, even with a macerated toilet I believe it has to be better to only dump when needed.

I run the black tank rinse every time the tank is dumped.

If I have a water supply, which is more often than not these days, I also leave my toilet on the “wet bowl” setting to keep everything in there as fluid/diluted as possible. It fills the black tank about three times faster but it prevents the accumulation of sludge.

When did that term " salesman switch " come from? I was rv salesman in 1990s - early 2000s,never called that.

since they started hiring a bunch of no-hopers that couldn’t grasp the concept of turning off the batteries after showing an RV.

I learned about the pyramiding problem when we had our toy hauler. I lived in the 5th wheel sometimes for a year while working out of state and I had a regular weekly routine to prevent it. Using a high pressure wand was a simple thing to do and I could add actually see straight down to the black tank bottom. Now things are different.
The toilets on our motor home have macerators
(Garbage disposers) that are supposed to turn everything into a liquid and supposedly (easily) wash out of the tank allowing you to leave the the tank valve open. I still fill and flush our motor home black once a week however, I cannot use the high pressure wand with these new fangled toilets. I have figured outs plan to disconnect the toilet after the macerator to gain direct access to the black tank. I also had to modify the high pressure wand (it was too big to fit down the smaller drain pipe) so I can thoroughly wash the bottom of the black tank. I believe that I’m doing my best to keep things clean down there so as of right now I’m concentrating on the sensors. My problems seem to happen during the hot part of the day(100+ here in So Cal) and/or when my chassis battery charge falls below 12.4 volts.

I love how a switch discussion turns to poo

For some brilliant reason our battery disconnect switch is outside at the back of the bus in the last storage compartment next to the batteries. What an annoyance.
