That looks like a Barred Owl. Nice photos!

Owls are very interesting creatures. We had the good fortune a while back to observe a nesting pair of Great Horned Owls and their nestlings as they got ready to leave the nest. Got to see their first flights. Hilarious...but successful.

lol, they're a hoot. This one challenged me on the way home not long ago.

 
It is a Barred Owl; we have them, too...distinctive “who cooks for you?” call...

We had one fly along a tree line as wife and I were walking a campground or two ago. Unfortunately I couldn’t snap a picture from a close enough distance without scaring him off. He changed trees three times before we annoyed him and he flew off.
