Here is an interesting ( at least to a geek) video discussing why some of the Fluke meters are sooo expensive...

Like the $600 toilet seat. I will say everywhere I've worked in electronics, they used fluke and they were calibrated.

I've loved my Fluke 87 for 30 years and it's still going strong. My 85 is newer (~20years) and I really like that one, too. I don't need the calibration any more but I bought them on the "buy once, cry once" mentality. That said, I have a handful of $25 DMM's that I use regularly, too. But If you want precision assurance, you can't go wrong with Fluke.

It's very simple. Quality. You can buy cheaper ohm meters, generators, tires, etc. etc., but professionals want the best when they work, and Fluke is it.

They take a beating and keep on ticking, I still have a 77 that works great.

As a former aircraft electrician, I abused a Fluke often. Never had a problem.
