Why do you think the RV industry inflates MSRP pricing.
Example a DS has MSRP of $750,000 but most sell for the mid $550,000’s as discounts typically range from 25 to 28% on Newmar’s
And this isn’t just Newmar, it’s industry wide

Sales 101. Makes you feel like you got a deal instead of royally suckered aka scammed. Kinda like some upcharges. Some people don’t barter well or are victims of being totally suckered into putting money in sales people’s pockets.

Always. FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Many years ago I went to lunch with a bank rep that was a car dealership specialist. Neal to add to your response, it was designed to be a tool to allow dealers to over allow on RV trade ins to sell customers new RV’s without them feeling how much they were loosing. IE: over allow on trade and sell new RV at less discount. This was just one theory that I heard.

Never been a salesman, just try to protect myself. I still do stupid such as accepting stupid warranties when signing for the sale. Lot's of lessons learned in this course of life and still learning. We must all protect ourselves and not be suckered into things and I think lesson #1 is letting a sales person know how bad you want something, you can pretty much hang it up right there.

I think you are 100% correct. The people that do not research and just buy are the dealers favorite customers. But heck, its those folks who allow the educated to get a better deal. That's how North Trail survives :p

I left out of my earlier explanation that 20 year financing created more of a need for this, minimum down, minimum payment on a 20 year loan looked pretty dim around the 4-5 year mark if you were looking to upgrade

Ok, I promise I won't get pissy if you tell me what you mean :) I have a North Trail, didn't pay anywhere near SRP, and feel like I got a decent trailer of comparable quality/build to those of friends that paid around the same for other brands. What am I missing?

I do not know about trailers but could never work a deal on a diesel with North Trail on three different purchases. In 2019, 2021 and 2023. They still have 4 of the 5 SS 4059's in stock that I tried to deal on in early November. And remember they were the Newmar dealer at the Jan Tampa rv show and STILL have these on their lot. I could work a better deal on an in stock 2024 at almost any dealer then they wanted to give on their leftover 23 with the older chassis. I call it the North Trail museum. Its not hard to do the math, folks go to the Tampa rv show to get a deal. How is it that until 3 weeks ago they still had the 5 that were on their when I went in November?
I cannot disclose the deal on my order but its much better then they were offering on these leftovers.
Do not take it personal, I say worse about Independence. I know a number of folks who do not like either dealer. At least with NT I have never felt abused or felt like they were insulting my intelligence like I have with Independence. NT just would not make a worthwhile deal.
Plus, I was a cash buyer willing to do a loan for a better deal.
I will no longer waste my time with any other dealer, I am on the NIRVC train now.

Oh, ok, you mean the dealership, not the Heartland North Trail brand. I knew there was a dealership named that from my pre-purchase research days but I'd forgotten!

It is my opinion, manufacturers or dealers never know the market 6 months out. The recreational market is notoriously fickle. Look at the pandemic demand which came out of nowhere. Selling at MSRP was easy then. Now the market is tighter, so discounts are back.

This keeps the manufacturer from having to change MSRP.

Selling at MSRP during high demand does not generate as much ill will as selling MSRP plus market adjustments. Look at the car dealerships and how much flack they got for selling over MSRP during the buying binge!
