As a native Floridian we moved to south carolina for a better life for us and our kids and found it. We always kept a house in key largo as some place to escape the cold and fish. Last year we sold our keys home and bought a place in Sebastian florida. Sebastian is as close to the same environment as ft. Lauderdale used to be sixty years ago. As for south Florida, you can keep it!

It is not “Florida” any longer. The tropical slow paced relaxing life is gone. Forty or thirty years ago it was paradise. I always said I’d never leave but now live in NC mountains and we bought a Coachman Galleria to travel.
Agree-- I moved here 40+ years ago .. now I"m looking to get out. Too crowded, infrastructure lagging behind.

Not a native, but I've lived in SW Forida for 65 years now and I can say it was a MUCH better place to live up until around 20 years ago. Every piece of open land has been covered with apartments, condos, gated communities and the accompanying businesses to supply the needs of the huge influx of people that have moved into our area (Ft. Myers). I'm certain all of the added concrete has helped to increase the temperatures. Traffic during "season" rivals the worst in the nation. Add in the brutal heat in the summer and it's not as nice as the chamber of commerce would have some believe. If I weren't so rooted in here, I'd be in TN or the Carolinas.

Infrastructure in all of America is lagging behind. The author of “Breakneck”, Dan Wang, explains the stark contrast with China regarding industrial development and public infrastructure over the past 40 years is as simple as who is running things. America is run by lawyers, China by engineers.

I am from Florida and moved to South Carolina 30 years ago. Sad to say that South Carolina is becoming like South Florida every day, with subdivisions popping up on every inch of land. Traffic is one of the biggest problems and the infrastructure isn't keeping up with the growth. Your better off just staying in florida.

We genuinely tried to retire to the south, with what our money could buy we were set to live like royalty. We looked at new developments in Anderson SC as well as some places in NC. Ultimately we could not contend with the heat and humidity. My wife and I both grew up in the Boston area and ended up retiring further north on an old ski mountain in NH. We're happy. :)

I've always wondered "should I move to Florida" as I love sun, water, etc. Maybe just sticking to RV trips is the answer? This is actually a pretty good video, I watch his stuff from time to time. But I welcome opinions from the Floridians that care to watch and comment.

I couldn't get past the first 2 minutes. I've lived here all my life. He's full of crap and obviously extremely biased.

Any big city is going to have problems but Florida happens to be a very well run state.

We don't need people like him or who think like him or people who believe his propaganda. Maybe his blue jacket indicates something.

I didn't watch the video but your governor is enough to make me want to live there. My brother moved to Jacksonville right out of grad school and never looked back.

A different perspective!!
Having grown up and lived in Virginia most of my life, I endured all that Va. has to offer!;)
Also lived in NC, TN, a while in NJ:mad:, and endured all they have to offer, as well.
So, about Florida, I moved here 5 years ago, and live just South of St. Augustine's historic district.
Yes, it can get a bit humid; however it is not as bad as a lot of areas. Nor are the temperatures as bad either.
It must be something about the curvature of the land mass, along this part of the state.
My observations, Temperatures here are almost always 5-8 degrees cooler than the Jacksonville area. A sister lives in Lakeland, and it is 7-10 warmer tha St. Augustine, & we check it out weekly, on our phone calls.
Another sister lives in Ft. Meade, and temps there are about the same as Lakeland.
A niece lives in Tampa, and it is also 4-5 degrees cooler here in St Augustine.

I wish he would make a similar video about Texas.

We’ve been full time in Florida for a decade, time flies. Summers are hot, we try to get away in August and September most years. Go north somewhere. New England or out west.
There are some real down sides to living here as with any of the States we’ve lived in.
Winters are nice. Season traffic is becoming an issue now. Vero Beach has grown a tremendous amount during and after Covid.
Many folks arriving in Vero are relocating from southern Florida as the hordes descended on Miami Ft Lauderdale Boca areas.
Many apartments being built which is changing the character of Vero. Too bad.
We are invested in the area so chances are we will stay at least for the winters.

I think the common refrain coming from the carpetbaggers is those who came here after us are the problem.
A bumper sticker in the town where I grew up read "When I retire I'm moving up North and driving 12 mph"

Dont remember anuone. Ever living in Florida retiring and moving to North Dakota. Yeah its hot, but I live in the swamp in Louisiana..trust me, Florida is not that bad.

I lived in Florida near Orlando for about 11 years after retiring from the Air Force. Back then it was not as crowded, but still a bit much for me. I went to the beach maybe twice. Too hot, too sticky. Did the theme parks about twice. To crowed, and too costly. We moved to Tennessee to one of the poorest counties, very small county government. It may get a little hot here in peek summer, but at least it’s cooler in the shade unlike Florida. And I love the privacy.
