I just read through the pet peeves. And added my own. So now time to flip it. What has been your best surprise at a campground?

I have a bunch but let's keep it to a bit less than a novel of epic size.
This last week it was a wonderful view at Belfair state park in WA. I was not expecting that to be the case I thought it would be a full park but we got a waterfront spot and the sun on the water was wonderful.

Then the last camp out with my Granny as we all got more than a little happy with my sister's new drink recipe. We got a spot away from most of the rest of the campground and we I am sure would have bugged everyone if we had been close to others that night.

Then the sound of rain on the roof of my van. I was so glad it was the van and not a tent. And I love the sound of rain. First night in the van and as we prepped for retirement

Watching my kids catch frogs at a lake waaaay the heck up high in the mountains. We were the first ones in for the year. Even got to chill my wine in a snowbank.

While it might not have been good for the guy driving it was fun to watch him back his BIG trailer into the spot about 2 feet from our van late at night, He had 2 friends 'helping' so all we needed to do was tell him great job when he finished.

Kayaking at dawn on a normally very busy lake and watching the turtles and trout swim under my kayaking.

The first campout after the covid shut down and watching a family with All the grands and cousins and sybs playing baseball and singing and having fun. Everyone respected the masks in the bathroom etc. but it was a joy to see people playing. Even if they were a bit loud at times.

So let's hear your favorite things. either a story or what you found Or????

Things that don't happen in the pet peeves

Did not happen at a "Campground" but I think the best "camping experience" was our very first time boondocking. It was American Girl Mine BLM just outside of Winterthaven California. We arrived late in the afternoon. I found a spot that the wife and I thought was perfect. As expected, our neighbors were quite a distance away. We got ourselves all set up. Dinner done, wine was delish. The stars were so close I was sure I could touch them. The next morning I wandered over to the neighbor to find out where I could register. He laughed. No registering here. He and his wife and dog had arrived early in October. We arrived early January. He said he had never registered or been asked to and they were in their seventh winter staying. I fell in love with the concept. That neighbor became good friends to this day as well as two more neighbors. We have since found some nicer places but that to me is camping.
