Streaming video i.e. Netflix & Prime is possible at 500 kbps with resolutions of 360p & 480p which on TVs 40 inches or less is acceptable quality. Many OTA channels are 360p. Security cameras set to standard definition will work. Right now, I’ve got to keep three $120-a-month dishes active year round just to keep an eye on whatever property I'm not on at the time. If I can drop that $360 down to $5 for several months at a time, well, that’s a math problem I’m happy to solve.
As mentioned earlier I bit the bullet and accepted the $5.00 fee however I have not used it in the low data mode. I have my coach in the shop right now for a tweak to the program. I have a false warning that was thought to be s sensor however now appears could be a bad wire.That is their chat bot saying reactivation doesn’t cost additional beyond the actual monthly charge.
Since chatbot/AI is known for hallucinations I am not going to bank on the AI opinion.
Not happy about how EM businesses now have a long history of changing. Stability and integrity is important to me. This change along with the lack of clarity and ability to speak to a real person is not a positive feather in Starlink’s cap.
I submitted a ticket asking for a human to provide clarity on reactivation costs.
In my starlink app, it now shows up under managing your subscription. I just paused mine for the $6 per month (Honduras price)Haven't received the email yet but seeing this on social media. Instead of pausing your subscription you can choose an emergency services mode for $5/month.
I suggest review this thread:I was poking around on the Starlink website. Has anybody looked at all the plans available? They have a local priority subscription. The subscription is $40/mth.. Then you buy the data in blocks. 500 gigs for $125. But it is all priority data. That is the same price as the unlimited roam package. It says and I quote " Priority, high speed service for businesses and other high-demand users for in-motion use within one country". It is not for everybody but could be beneficial for some. I have never felt like my service got throttled because of high usage but some have complained about it. I intend to stay on the 10 gig plan for now and see what my bill looks like with the $2/ gig overage charges. If it gets onerous in the fall I will probably switch to the 50 gig plan for $50/month. It is $1/gig overage. We had one trip back in the Spring where we were out for fourteen days. We used 69 gigs during that trip, but it straddled months end so no overage.

I've lined out the bad info above, chastised myself, and will now stand in the corner.It warns you when you get to like 80% used and again when you hit 100%.Then you can go into your account and add gb's manually or you can opt in for automatic top offs of 50gb or 500 gb chunks on the subscription. You can't just get like 5 or 10 from what I see, just another block of 50 or 500 @ $1 per gb. That's how it worked on the 10gb plan also iirc but at a higher per gb cost.
If you don't do the opt in thing and exceed the 50gb, it will restrict you to only being able to access your starlink account to manage your subscription. I don't know if it eventually shuts that access off or not.
I wait for the 80% and then make a judgement if I'm going to be out long enough to justify another block of 50 or just moderate my usage until the next billing cycle starts. So far I've not had to add any data....but have had to watch antennae TV for a few days and save my Starlink for work stuff.
I also have some hot spot data I can use on my Iphone if I have signal (ATT) which I so far have had. We don't do a ton of streaming, but if I'm working I have many teams calls and meetings.
