Why?
I go back to no TV, only a radio, then once we had a TV, you actually had to get your butt up off the couch and turn it on/off, volume, up or down, and switch channels.

I think AI might be a winning proposition as it will actually make people THINK and investigate to see if what they are seeing, hearing is actually reality.
On the economy, like any other advancements in society it comes at a cost, how it actually plays out, we won't really know, HOWEVER, negativity and bad news will always draw in folks, like a flame does a moth.

We just purchased a new car, the technology is amazing, and much safer to drive......
HOWEVER, I still must put my butt on the seat, to go somewheres.....

Honestly, I see ZERO purpose for a HUMAN USER forum. I come here to talk to REAL people, honestly, no matter how much negative that carries with it.

I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with the fact that if we wanted to "hear AI's opinion", we'd ask for it...elsewhere; like Grok, Chat, Gemini, etc.

It's hard enough to cipher through people's responses who've merely used "AI" for the answer to your question. Again, my humble opinion is the age-old phrase: "if I wanted your (AI) opinion, I'll ask for it."

But the problem is you will not know what "brain" is talking. I guess you have not noticed many posters are just copy/pasting an AI response and representing it as their own. I think the best solution (if we need one) is that we ask anyone pasting an AI response to clearly give that response proper attribution, just like we do with copyrighted material, then the forum participant knows who is talking. Hard to enforce but it would just be a recommendation for participants in the forum.

In the end, no matter how it presents itself, it lowers the value of a forum. And that My friends is My point. Poorly worded or not, a tally helps owners set course of action based on user Input. You can let Neal know what you prefer with this poll.

It enables individuals to interpret information and apply meaning to experience.

Modern AI and LLM's have far more knowledge now than any human. Knowledge is the basis for humans "to interpret information and apply meaning". That is where (right now) humans are relevant.

AI is simply a "knowledge engine" here to serve humanity.

If information was the main reason people visit forums, then when the kinks are worked out, there could be a place for it.

However, In My view, right now, AI is working against what draws people to forums. I can get AI information by just doing a search.

Can you give us example about how this is done? I have AI in Gmail that is constantly giving corrections to grammar and phrasing but it is opt in, not required. If there are forums actually editing posts without consent using AI I would leave as well. I don’t think anyone would approve of that. AI can be used for many things. Quality knowledge generation and availability is most important. I really like the Grok AI fact checking going on with X. We could use that here on this forum. It can be done without modifying user comments. X simply appends a fact checking box to a post if it finds that someone has purposely stated a “fact” that can be confirmed as erroneous. The words still stand as posted but the reader is advised to seek further information.

And why is this any worse than a forum member who habitually does the same thing? We have a couple of forum members who regularly do this to stir things up and nobody says a thing (except the misquoted author on occasion ).

I suggest you ask AI what it is about some people who have an irrational fear of new technology, like AI. I won't post it here because it will just inflame the debate. But the answer is eye opening.

Has AI actually performed a task that a writer is asking about? Nope. AI is gathering info from lots or sources. Some sources may be declaring incorrect data. How can AI logically determine what source is correct. You and I can look at an answer and decide some data is obviously BS simply because many of us have "Street Smarts". I will take the word of someone "in real life" that has learned the knowledge by actually having performed the task.

There will be no AI integration here. I don't care if people use google search, chatGPT, Gemini, Grok, or whatever. Do your research, trust but verify, but we are talking to humans here, not bots.
