That is what I was thinking, the question is how to put it in calibration mode.My suggestion is to call the manufacturer of teh compass, or at least get a manual.
The one in my Expedition said in the manual to put it in the calibrate mode. and drive in small circles 3 times then turn off the calibrate mode.

I can't see that Accuracy is All that important on land but it might be.

The cal mode was in the owners manual that came with the car.

Since I taught navigation/compass/piloting I was good at it. 30 miles out at sea, fishing, with only a compass, chart, depth sounder and VHF radio. This was a normal trip.
Just because someone owns a boat it doe not necessarily mean they know something about it....
