Time for new slide toppers

My FWS slide topper probably won't survive this next week in windy Hatteras. It's separate in the middle at the coach side as its own beach attraction. I'll inspect the others but I'm guessing I should just replace all three. Any recommendations of what to get, where to do it, order it and find a RV mobile tech, etc. etc.? Don't need to break the bank on this, but it's time. This trip ends in a week with early Jan next departure.

I welcome any suggestions on slide toppers.

I have seen ShadePro at Newmar International rallies and they have replaced slide toppers. The people I talked to seemed pleased with them.

Maybe to stop the flapping, load a double or triple layer of your kitchen trash bags with a couple of quarts of beach sand, tie the bag off and weight down the flapping part for the rest of the stay there? Might have to stand on the Colorado bed to reach it, if your campsite space lets the truck get alongside close. (I carry a Franklin telescoping ladder for such trubbles!)

I had Newmar replace all 3 of mine in 2025. The complete cost was $ 2669.91. I also had them replace the main awning for an additional $1082.51. There is a place in Red Bay, Al. that will replace them.

Neal - I had Lippert look at mine at Rock Springs the last day - but as the plastic "track" was splitting they could not do it there.

We had Shadepro do ours. The installer came to where we were boon docking at no additional charge to install them. The installer was awsome.

We are now making arrangements for them to replace our awning fabric.

We had a tear on the front of the FWS topper.

While at the mothership they removed, had the seamstress cut an inch off the end, then sewed it back up again.

Was a whole lot less expensive than replacing the topper.

I had mine replaced this summer in the Nappanee area. A local custom canvas shop provided the material (Sumbrella) for $650 and a mobile tech installed them for $500. Three slide toppers and the door awning.

I think the biggest issue is wind stress in the stitching that holds the bead. Our carefree came unstitched and started looking sun bleached, our tough top started to come unstitched, and actually had a stress rip forming at the front…Coach side mounting track. This side, for what’re ever reason isn’t taut like the rear. It should be parallel…taut on both ends, but the front tends to bellow some. Kitchen and BR don’t have an issue.

It would be nice if you could fold the edges and double stitch them…but the bulk of rolling that up would cause issues.

I like the sumbrella idea. We had those on our center console. Sprayed with uv protectant…of course the edges were toled and had grommets. Never had an issue with that fabric. But didn’t keep it as long as the coach either.

Wife and I did ours in our driveway 3 years ago. Not really hard to do. It is a good size PIA, especially the FWS. Two people would be my recommendation, one to feed it and the other to pull it down the track.
