I am looking at a TT that is approximately 6000-6500 lbs tops with about 725 lb. hitch weight. Actually that weight is padded a bit to be conservative on my needs. I am looking at possibly the new Ford F-150 with the 3.5 six Eco boost that has 400 HP and I believe 500 foot lbs. torque and above I believe 12k lbs. towing capacity. The other option is a 5.7 liter Toyota Tundra at 381 HP and just over 400 foot lbs. torque and a hair over 10k lbs. towing capacity.

Would either be a viable option? Anyone with a similar setup in weight of TT to say if I would be good?

Here a great site that estimates trucks' capacity. Don't go by tow capacity, the limiting factor on 1/2 tons is payload capacity. Look at the truck your going to buy because payload can be as little as 1100 pounds to as much as 2500 pounds depending on options.

I can't imagine ever being happy with a truck with a V6 engine for towing. I don't care how many turbos you hang on it. That engine will work itself to death when fully loaded. I don't think you'll be happy with it. Get yourself a V8.

Ok....test drove a 2020 F250 XLT Crew Cab today and if the numbers add up will try to seal the deal Monday. Has the 7.3 liter engine. Drove really nice I must admit. This should tow a 31’ travel trailer with ease I suspect.

Around here a 7.3 F250 XLT 4X4 runs 55k sticker, discounted to 53k.

Thats a lot of truck for the money.
That is almost identical. I got the dealer down to $53045 which I was hoping closer to $50k but you are right, lots of truck there. This one was just over $56k sticker.

Campmore,
My only comment is that I think a V8 engine is the way to go for towing due to the torque the engine makes vs. the V6 engine. The Eco Boost engine is a V6 engine that is turbocharged to get those numbers that you referenced. And while the numbers may be accurate you don't tow on paper, you tow in real life. If you'll look at a dyno sheet comparing the two engines you'll see the only way to get those kinds of numbers from a V6 engine is to turn the piss out of it and turbo it on top of that. Going down the road pulling a 10-12,000 lb. trailer this thing will be screaming! The RPM's will be way up there because you are pushing this engine to it's limits. It will also run much hotter than a normally asperated engine would. One thing I know about towing is that heat is NOT your friend. I've seen way too many rigs on the side of the road with the hoods up because they over heated. Start up a mountain and the heat level in the cooling system goes up even higher. Personally I would not consider a V6 engine for towing, unless you're towing Sea Do's or Wave runners or a motorcycle or something like that. That's my $.02. Keep the change. :ROFLMAO:

Forgot to update this post. Ended up with a 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty with the 7.3 liter mammoth engine! The spec’s on this truck and me conversing with some truck diehards was that it will tow what you are looking to with ease.

Its a beast for sure.

I had a 2016 32’ prowler, I started out with a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. When diesel prices spiked I sold it and bought a Toyota Tundra with the iforce package, I installed a set of wireless air lift air bags. In my opinion there was absolutely no difference in towing capacity! Of course the Toyota did use a bit more gas but was compatible towing wise! And definitely needs the air bags! That’s just my opinion!
