Alert “Heat dome” blistering the West!

Yowser, it is hot…and is forecast to get even hotter! We’re in normally temperate Junction City, Oregon, for the next few days for service work on the coach (including getting the third AC working again). It is currently 93 degrees with tomorrow’s high temp forecast at 100 and Sunday’s at 106. Yikes!!! Monday is supposed to “cool off” to 95 and Tuesday to a chilly 89. If the forecast temps for now through the 4th of July actually reach the predicted levels, they will all be record-breakers for June and July.

Now, I’m no climate scientist, and I’m certainly not a politician, but something is changing the weather pretty dramatically. Maybe it is the politicians and all their hot air after all! Hmmmmm.

A week ago, I was visiting a friend in Sedona, AZ for three weeks. Man, I expected AZ to be hot in June but opening the door was literally like opening a 500 degree oven in every sense of the word. Amazingly, these three ACs managed it really well and worked nonstop that entire three weeks, keeping the inside of the coach at 76. Warmer than we normally like it but very livable compared to the 100-110 degrees we were seeing outside in the afternoon.

Sedona is a jaw dropping gorgeous place to visit and tons of good eats there. Reminded me a bit of Salt Lake City in the sense that no matter where you go, there is an amazing view from every point.

I do not advise going to AZ in the summer though. It. Is. HAWT.

speaking of hot ? do you guys travel with your generator on and running the air conditioners ? Going north manana and will be going through 105 + for a few hours and the dash AC just doesn't cut it. Although I can handle "HOT" my wife can't. Just asking...I have never needed to nor tried, so I'm asking. Does the generator run OK while bouncing around on the road ? Thanks for any ideas. Absolutely. The generator doesn’t use much fuel at all in the grand scheme of things. No reason to be miserable for hours on end when the flip of a switch can prevent that and do hardly any damage to your fuel bill

We are in Traverse Bay RV Resort in Michigan for a month, and it is nice and cool. Had mornings of 45F. During the day is in the 70’s. Maybe we’ll stay here for a while ?

When we had our Newmar 4369 we certainly ran the gen and air when it was hot. Now even with the fiver I plan on starting the generator about an hour before reaching our daily destination so I can get those airs running.

Yikes…just checked the new forecast for today and the 100 degrees has been bumped up to 103. Tomorrow’s 106 has been bumped to 108! I sure hope they are wrong! With 1 AC not working, we are reaching near capacity to cool the coach.

It sure is “nuts.” We just don’t get this kind of heat here in the Pacific Northwest. I don’t ever remember a 105+ day in all the years we’ve lived here and count the number of 100+ days on the fingers of one hand.

Glad you folks are having a respite.

This is nasty! We feel like prisoners. Most of the shades are pulled to keep the sun out and it feels a bit like a cave. The Silverleaf panel outdoor temperature shows 97 degrees at the moment and with one AC down, we are struggling to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the coach. Having the third AC working might not help as the park voltage is sagging; we’re lucky to maintain 114V-115V with dips to 110V. May need to consider running the generator if this keeps up.

Going outside is simply not an option, though I do need to take the dogs out pretty soon. Just trying to stay hydrated and reasonably comfortable. And, tomorrow is supposed to be several degrees hotter.

Not sure what we’ll do on Monday when the coach is in the shop for repairs. I sure hope they have some kind of customer lounge with AC. We’re a bit concerned about our dogs if we have to spend the day in the car; it does have AC, but would not be comfortable for them.

TJ, I flew A-10's in Kuwait at 137 degrees out. You can do this, just drink a lot of water and stay in the shade. Don't do anything to over exert yourself and you'll be fine.

Are you staying at Guaranty rv?
A few years back Premier allowed us to stay in the coach plugged into 50amps while they replaced the radiator in our Alpine. We were there for about 3 days. Can’t remember their lounge but this was years ago. You could always head over to the Guaranty store and sit in their lounge as they allow dogs.

Well, it happened…power is now out at the park; generator is on but lots of folks here don’t have that resource. And, wouldn’t you know it; calls to the park office get a recording saying it is closed. There are supposed to be two “park hosts” onsite, in different sites, but neither are there.

UPDATE: the power is back on after several of us tracked down the problem and reset the park breaker. The maintenance guy that showed up a little later was not pleased that someone had done his job, but somebody had to. We’re doing fine; my concern is for all the folks in travel trailers who don’t have generators.

Sounds like someone needs to find the breaker in the electrical box. One of my last stops I lost power, I was pulling around 45A so I was overheating the breaker. Site owner cycled the breaker at the main box and I was online again. Maybe if you can find the panel you could be the life saver?
