Full Wall Slide support shaft gasket

Hi All,

The gasket that helps "seal" off the basement storage where the support shafts slide into to the RV has become brittle and are crumbling. Have any of you gotten creative to replace it with something other than the standard slab of rubber Newmar used?

Following. Some of ours tore within a few months of owning our coach. Replaced while at factory but the process is starting again.

I haven't reached out to them yet, although I can tomorrow. I feel like they may just refer me to a rubber(ish) board that will disintegrate again. I was hoping the brains on the forum would have come up with something better.

I don’t even know what the point of that would be. With those huge gaps, it can’t be keeping much of anything out of there.

But I will say this @Richpatty, given the number of self tapping screws they used to secure it to the RV, they were clearly concerned about you driving down the highway with your slide extended.

I wasn't impressed with the seals on mine either. You could feel the heat pouring out of the basement. I had some 1" closed cell foam and cut it out to fit the hole on top of the factory seal. A little bit of weather strip cement keeps them in place when slides are deployed. Also sprayed a bit of rodent repellent on them for good measure.

Doesn't look to exotic, sheet rubber could be used to fab a replacement. Save as much of the original as possible to template it.
