Can anyone give me simple steps to towing a 2019 Tahoe 4x4 with keyless start? GM manual is confusing In some ways. I need like step one engage 4 wheel dial etc.

If your talking about how to put the transfer case in neutral, here is a video on hoe to do it.

My followup question is the shift lever will be in neutral or drive? The manual seems to say drive, but that goers against what I have done in the past when towing a GMC Acadia wheels down.

I pulled the manual online for 2019 Tahoe 4x4 . I think the reason why is to make sure you do not lock the steering wheel. I'd follow the manual in any case.

Below is what I copied out of the manual I read online:

To dinghy tow:
1. Position the vehicle being towed behind the tow vehicle, facing forward and on a level surface.
2. Securely attach the vehicle being towed to the tow vehicle.
3. Apply the parking brake and start the engine.
4. Shift the transfer case to N (Neutral). See “Shifting into N (Neutral)” under Four-Wheel Drive 0 239 for the proper procedure. Check that the vehicle is in N (Neutral) by shifting the transmission to R (Reverse) and then to D (Drive). There should be no movement of the vehicle while shifting.
5. With the transmission in D (Drive), turn the ignition to ACC/ACCESSORY. If equipped with Keyless Access, turn the engine off.

Caution Failure to disconnect the negative battery cable or to have it contact the terminals can cause damage to the vehicle.

I believe that when the transfer case is in Neutral, the driveline is completely disconnected from the transmission. The transmission shift lever being in Drive should not be a problem. I suspect (but don't recommend trying) that it could be in any position, including Reverse, since the transmission and driveline are disconnected from one another.

That is very helpful observation. This is my first towing a 4x4 vehicle, previously I had a GMC Acadia that was not 4 wheel drive, but towable wheels down but you put the transmission gear lever in neutral. I guess just to be safe I will put the gear lever in neutral. This car is keyless and that is harder to adjust to in towing. Thanks again for your remarks.

Just be sure to follow the instructions in the manual and, if you have difficulty understanding any part of the procedure, check with the service department at your dealer to get a clarification. If they don't know off-hand, they should be able to go through their official channels to get you the correct answer.
