Preparing for a trip in 6 weeks to South Padre Island from Havana, AR near Bentonville, Ar. We'd like to know a route around Houston or Dallas. We don't travel at night. Any suggestions from fellow RVers would be so helpful. We drive a 32 ft class C pulling a Jeep Cherokee toad.

I'm a bit confused, Google Maps says Havana is south of I-40 in Yell county?
Whether is Bentonville or Havana it's not going to be easy to miss the major Texas cities. Good news is Texas does a good job on their roads.

Look at picking up 59 out of Texarkana and staying on it to Houston. Take 99 all the way around Houston and pick 59 back up to Victoria and then 77 to South Padre.

Thanks DK, totally get your confusion. Our motorhome is in Havana and we'll head south to Texarkana from there. You're route around Houston is just what we'll do.

Safe RV'ing to you.
Kurt

Just be prepared to pay out the nose on the west section of 99 and they don’t honor anything except tax toll tags. You’ll get a bill in the mail based on your license plate and it will expensive!!

Hate auto correct. That’s TX toll tag, not tax 😁

That's a helpful bit of info. Thanks much. Guess that'll be a beans and franks day.

You can find out where there's problems on Texas highways Drive Texas - Static Map I really recommend checking it before your trip. I think I saw a closure on your route.

Coming down 59, in Nacogdoches take 21 to Crockett. Then 19 to Huntsville. Then 30 to 90 and Navasota. Then 6 to Hempstead. Out of Hempstead take159 to Belleville. In Bellville, take 36 to Sealy and on to Wallis, East Bernard, and to Wharton. Pick 59/69 up in Wharton and on to south Padre. Sounds difficult but a really easy drive and scenic. Takes about 35 minutes longer than going through Houston. And no toll roads or traffic. I do this route very often in our 45 ft. Essex on our way to Rockport

Way cool Magua, we'll check this route out. Like the no toll and traffic thing.

Here is the TX Toll site for 99 Toll 99

The Huntsville route seems like it might be a better idea.

I do to. And therein is the beauty of this forum. I'm a confirmed fan.
