Trapper Creek-Palmer (85 miles)
This was a stay at Harvest Host, Alaska Raceway Park which is a NASCAR sponsored track. July 4th weekend so lots going on, Saturday races Sunday drag races and car show. Hosts were awesome and we had great time boondocking.
...on the road, going from place to place, I agree the batteries are not used by most people.
But if people use rest areas, truck stops, harvesthosts, BLM, Walmarts, or other forms of short term boondocking, then the equation changes very quickly with a residential fridge and todays electronic...
Try HarvestHosts. I haven't used it much but I have a friend that travels between Phoenix and Coeur d'Alene Idaho and he uses it for his trips and different routes

...also more suited to your type of trip than 99 from Red Bluff to Sac
Willows Travel center (I-5 and hwy 57) has good overnight parking
HarvestHosts is a good choice for “free” overnights (although you can end up spending some $$ at these locations) and they have a good on-line route/stop...
...this proved yet again as I was having a problem getting out of the Dallas area and heading east. I thought I was going to have to hop HarvestHosts until Sunday and then find a place to stay for a few days until the already reserved next spot. Today I searched yet again as I needed a plan and...
...not accommodate us, only because they were hosting a wedding and just didn't have room. But, the fabulous experiences we have had with HarvestHosts far outweigh that one. Super program, and as long as it's available, we will continue our membership. We always call ahead to make our...
...using this method and have discovered some really nice parks doing so.
I’ve downloaded half a dozen campground apps, but other than HarvestHosts and KOA, I never use them, and only go looking for a KOA when I need full hook-ups and can’t find anything else. KOA CGs are dependable, clean and...
...NON trip planning and just doing CG searching. RV Trip Wizard is more designed for planning longer trips of multiple days, etc. And yes HarvestHosts is another one I use for my overnights vs. a $70 KOA overnight. But HarvestHosts requires more research to avoid situations like I recently...
Wow, that's weird. And no, I never have either and wouldn't for the people we see on TV these days. I'll pay for safety. HarvestHosts is your best bet for an overnight free (after membership) and enjoy a great destination usually as well.
...between google maps and my Garmin 890 I can always find a suitable park while traveling long distances with no reservations. I also use HarvestHosts while on the road, but these sites rarely have hook-ups. KOA has an app and I use them (although not their app) occasionally as they are...
We’ve done HarvestHosts several times and try to when we can. Sometimes we just want to make a quick stop, eat diner, hit the bed and then get back at it and get to the destination.
Have you learned about HarvestHosts? For an annual membership, it gives access to over 1,200 wineries, breweries, distilleries, museums, farms and golf courses. Overnight for $0. All they ask is that you consider patronizing their business. 2-3 stays “pays” the annual membership versus...
...with my answer, "There is nothing cheap about traveling in a motorhome".
We're leaving this morning for 4 days staying at various HarvestHosts locations in the Texas Hill Country Winery areas. Whether I get 5mpg or 15mpg, we're still going.
I truly dread the day I have to hang up the...
Stayed at a wonderful Harvest Host in Atkins, Arkansas a couple of nights ago....Paw Paw's Pecan Farm. The absolute quiet and peace of being parked between the rows of pecan trees was truly uplifting. Charlotte and Billy were kind and welcoming hosts. The fudge and the pecans, plain, brittled...
@sheridany have you considered HarvestHosts? Safer in my opinion and a great experience visiting wineries, golf courses, etc. I've been to a few in great destinations out in the country with great views, very private and isolated, also some that were busy wineries and enjoyable.
...Gorge WV. Anyone have suggestions for that stretch?
We have a 19, 13, 10, and 9yo. Looking something less commercial. We have used HarvestHosts before and will probably use it again to stay at a few farms. The kids loved the dairy farm we stayed at in Iowa last time.
Leave NC, Stone...
