I have a small, simple camper for off-grid only camping. It has a 100W solar panel on the roof and an 80W 'briefcase' portable back-up. These charge my system adequately and we have plenty of strong sun here. Our power usage is very small - just the fridge control panel, furnace fan when needed...

I still have the LA house battery that will be changed out for lithium and I think I can use this to control time being charged by the alternator . My other battery bank is lithium and the solar charges that most of the time.
No source for oil yet, so looks like we're going with the CLASS A that's here for sale, it has everything but solar, so instead of installing new solar were seeing how we can transfer the solarfrom the RV we are in tomthe the one were getting. The one were getting is 50amp 24 volt, 3x 100 watt...
Hey all.
Shut down breakers, removed battery (solar sys), hooked up shore power, powered up breakers and the power panel is emitting a small whining sound....any ideas?
Don't make Solar Prep an option, make it STANDARD in ALL Newmars. This sets Newmar above the others, make every coach "green" solar ready. Solar prep is nothing more than running the 6 AWG wires to the roof and ethernet to the inside. I'm sure the costs could be covered in the sale price...
I am not a solar expert but I have learned a lot from others here mainly @Chuggs who guided me through my solar install which I mirrored his setup and then took it a few steps further. I wanted to share what I have learned to date as it may help others and I welcome others that also installed...
I just purchased a used 2021 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 287BHS. However as I started to look for the solar prep package, which I thought was standard, was missing. The roof did not have the connectors and there isn't a label on the wall inside the master bed room. What am I missing? Am I able to...
Purchased a (like new) used 2017 Venture Sonic Lite (SL167VMS) 20' tt last Saturday. The owners manual says it is "pre wired for solar" and "pre wired for a back up camera". I have found nothing on line to assist me with what I need to do to add solar to my pre wired trailer. Only unidentified...
Thank you chuggs! You have given people something to think about!
I would like to add thoughts about solar controllers often under utilized.
The two terminals seldom used on solar controllers are the load terminals. I don't get this! When used in conjunction with a solid state relay...
...I'm around CA, NV, AZ, UT, areas. Willing to go to other nearby areas too. If any of you have recommendations for a business that will install solar atop a van roof, please share. My van is brand new so I only feel comfortable hiring only a regular business to do the work. People told me...
Hi,
Hope someone can help, we have a 2019 Ace 27.2 we see that there is a solar panel on the roof, but unable to find what its connected to, we can't find a charge controller or anything else, any ideas?
Thanks Albarb
...of the batteries have been replaced by a dealer with lithium with a 11 yr warranty that started in 2025. Included with this upgrade it had more solar panels installed for a total of 6 Panels allowing it to be able to run everything off solar and battery including AC. Both Front tires were...
...also new to the fifth wheel life. My girlfriend and I have recently looked into purchasing a Jayco Eagle 319MLOK. We are wanting to put enough solar on it to never need to plug it in, I understand I'll need batteries, but curious what a sufficient amount of Panels, etc, would be?
Thanks in...
Slow down your thinking faster than your talking!
What is 24v? 3x 100wattts at what voltage? Are you sure the controller won't work on 24 volts? And are you going to have an inverter? That will definitely need to be built for the proper voltage!
