2018 Bay Star - Wipers stopped working

As the title says, while driving towards Hilton Head Island in a rain shower the wipers stopped working. At least they weren’t blocking my field of view and the rain let up.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot? It’s a very tight area up under the hood of a Bay Star. We smelled a light almost electrical burning smell which dissipated once they stopped working. My guess is either something broke and jammed the motor or the motor just flat out gave up the ghost.

Hmmm, no real idea here other than to check electricals but of course call Newmar. 24/7 hotline, always interesting to put that to the test. Worked for me early on as I called Sunday afternoon when I couldn't air up and they answered AND conferenced Freightliner in, way cool!

Chassis fuses? Turn chassis battery cutoff of then on again? Reaching....

Interested in responses from the hotline. When My inverter died on the road, I called 4 time, and never received a response. The message changed in my later calls to imply that the number was only for King Aire owners. I had no option, but to hightail it for home before the batteries died.

My relay gets water blow-by that seeps in from the hood assembly. It takes heavy rain and usually a couple hours run time before it begins acting up...but as soon as it dries out it returns to normal. Not sure if that's a possibility with your MH...but take a hair dryer to the relay and see what happens. Just an shot in the dark ?

Follow up. Found the fuse which was a task unto itself and it was fine. Considering the faint electrical odor I’m leaning towards motor or wiring. Don’t see any burnt wiring, but again it takes a contortionist to get up under the hood. I’ll call Newmar on Monday since we are in Hilton Head for the week.

So follow up to my follow up. Ordered a new motor, which are hard to find other than Newmar. Plugged it in to test and nothing. So figured there is another fuse or I checked the wrong one. Dug further and found a whole additional swath of Ford fuses. Bingo, #11 was blown. Swapped it out and viola the wipers returned home. Not sure why it blew but it is fixed for now. Onto the chassis battery ...

On another note, I found the Wexco G138W motor at AutoTex for half the cost of Newmar. Now I have a spare to fight Murphy’s Law.

Regarding your comment on the faint smell of electrical contacts or insulation burning, I'll be interested to follow your trail of discovery on this. From what I've read here, I agree with your thought, it appears this is more than a simple blown fuse. However it could be a bad ground or loose connection some where. An infrared camera to look for unique heat sources might be useful to inspect circuits.

If you start to attempt to diagnosis your issue you might want to view this video for some interesting tips. While it is not directly on point, you don't have a direct short, it contains helpful diagnostic tips to find shorts and to understand how the circuit is wired and what is on a particular circuit (it may be more than your wiper motor).

Had the same thing paid hundreds to find the fuse and replace
