That's what I was thinking. The van doesn't need that much power, but maybe they were plugging in a few high draw items.More available power?
Running a microwave and a/c simultaneously on a 50 amp service with both on the same leg ordinarily wouldn't be an issue. Each leg is 50 amp 6,000 watts. My Sanctuary uses a 30 amp input, but the owners manual suggests turning off the a/c while using the microwave. If you have a 50 amp service and the a/c is wired to one leg of the service and the microwave is wired to the other leg, then running both at the same time is not an issue. 50 Amp service is actually 220 volt, but you can think of it really as two 120 volt circuits side by side. The only downside I can think of is that 30 Amp service is easier to find in some places.
