Question Anyone use fuel locking caps on their RV?

I bought two of these but never used them. Anyone using locking gas/diesel caps?

Almost purchased one when we had our class C several years ago (gas). Stayed at a campground for a week, and was out sightseeing almost every day. When I started the RV to go home, I was shocked at my gas gauge. Had to jump out to make sure I wasn’t leaking fuel. My guess was someone was desperate and needed some fuel. Only happened that one time, but I always thought I should get a locking cap(s). Campground was a “nice” place, so it was a shocker.

I used one on the passenger side filler only because it was the only type NAPA had at the time. I look at it as one more key to lose or misplace (I’m a bit scatterbrained) and I don’t see fuel theft as a serious threat right now.

I agree with @USMCRet on both points! Our primary fuel security is situational awareness. When we are in places where we are concerned (which we try hard to avoid), we leave the outside lights on at night. It might irritate the neighbors, but I sleep better. And, our "watch-Schnauzers" alert us to the presence of anyone near the coach.

And another one after a quick google. Moral is people may try to siphon your gas. I just don't want to deal with the added keys. Same with not locking surge protector, water softener, and even the bike is rarely attached to something but does lock the rear wheel to the frame.

The only locking fuel caps were on my plane. At $6 -7 a gallon for avgas, some people were tempted ?.
Stealing diesel with 1/2” hose, could be long process, me thinks?

Heck, I very seldom lock my basement compartments much less my fuel tank. If someone wants to steal something I would rather not have the coach messed up by some idiot with a crowbar. Maybe I’ll put a locking cap on my DEF tank?

@Neal mentioned bike, I have to say that even though I believe most places are okay I am finding bikes are #1 things stolen. Last place I was staying I had DW & my bike locked together with cable bike lock. Woke up one morning to find cable cut and my Cannondale gone?

This is why my Blackvue 1-CH Dashcam in my MH is always on and I use the power magic pro to keep the Dashcam 2-CH (front and rear) on as long as possible to try to catch events like this.

I agree! That said, locking caps might deter a vandal from putting something bad in the fuel tank. We don't use them...yet...but may consider doing so in the future for that reason.
