Hello fellow RVrs.
I have a 2014 Coachmen Freelander 23QB.
I replaced the awning cover (Dometic 8500) and the slideout topper last week. It was a very straightforward job but I was wondering what can be done to protect the vinyl rolls for the future, since they are rolled up 98% of the time and the sun kills the first 6-8 inches of the vinyl.
Was thinking of some kind of a protective cover that would shield it from the sun or possibly glue a 8-10 inch wide strip of the same vinyl material as a sacrificial material.
Hopefully somebody has some bright ideas out there.
Thank you, Peter Kjellberg.

FWIW, last year I got too close and rubbed up against a tree with my Carefree awning.
No rips, but a lot of scrape marks.
Gorilla black duct tape to the rescue! It looks pretty good, IMHO. :)

I looked into them last year and they are pretty pricey. I think Amazon has them too.

I live in WNY State. A few seasons back we left for Key West in the middle of February during a snow storm, towing our car on a dolly, with kayaks on top of the car!

There was an ice build up on the exposed awning, and driving down the road caused the ice to tear away the outer vinyl from my Carefree awning. While in Key Largo for few days I went to an ACE Hardware and bought a roll of black tape for $3.95. That tape was used to patch up a lot pin holes and tears until we finally had the awning material replaced this January.
