We are boondocking in the Santa Fe National Forest. Yesterday I heard a rumbling sound that kept getting louder until a "swoosh" went past. He was flying with the wings swept back and low enough that I could read the tail numbers. I've since learned NM is where they practice their low-level navigation.

It was a sight and sound to behold.

A good read is the story about how they had to make an "invisible" support post at the radar transmitting test range to set fuselages on during stealth technology development. That whole "Skunk Works," thing was/is some sharp tinkering!

I was on reforger in West Germany in the 70's and we were strafed by the AF. We never even heard them until all hell broke loose and the trees bent over as they killed our asses.
Growing up in North Florida just across East St. Andrews Bay from Tyndall AF Base in the 60's our windows rattled regularly from low flying tac air. It was just how it was, not a big deal.
