17 years old, 7 feet tall and about 950 lbs is what they said.
   Yikes, that is one BIG bear!

Having worked in Yellowstone way back when, I have plenty of bear stories but I won't bore you with them. Let's just say I have a HUGE amount of respect those big guys, especially after seeing how fast they can move. Scary that a half-ton animal would give a world-class human sprinter more than just a run for his money.

Just out of curiosity, I did a little research. World-record holder in the 100M sprint, Usain Bolt (Jamaica), reached 27.8 mph about 2/3s of the way through his record-breaking sprint. OTOH, grizzly bears have been clocked in excess of 30 mph over a sustained, two-mile run on an asphalt roadway. It is likely they could be faster on dirt/grass where they could get a little better traction.

The human world record for the mile run is 3:43.13. At the Grizzly's pace, that's a sub-2 minute mile! Impressive...and, something to think about when you're in bear country.

I did 35 chasing the ice cream truck the other night.

Bears do it, bees do it, it’s a bear market, the running of the bears, does a bear do it in the woods.....I can bearly stand it!
What bear of a person started this thread anyhow!?

Please report for your no notice testing, it's time for you to pee in a cup sir!

I’m starting to find this thread a little overbearing. I mean, I can bearly stand it.

just remember, when in bear country have the right to bear arms...if you can get manage to get em off the bear that is.
