2022 Dutchstar 4369. Need to route a cat5 from the overhead cabinet above the driver to the dinette. So far I have the cable under the dash and through the firewall. Seems fairly straight forward to get up to the OH cabinet. Would love to hear any details / lessons learned experience from anyone who has managed to get a cable through the slide cable / water trays and into the dinette area.

Thanks,

I had that very run done for me. Not hard. You have to remove the plastic cover on the A pillar, left of windshield. You'll see all the wires running in that path. From OH cabinet you'll go down and then through the firewall into the GEN bay, probably have to remove the gob of foam sealant. Then you go essentially back through the battery bay over the wall into the basement and then you have to route through the cable path that goes out to the FWS. The unfun part is you'll have to drill a hole to get into the dinette. Plan this carefully as Newmar hit my ice maker line and had to replace it. You should find things like the 120V outlet run in that area that the frig plugs into.

If you're not comfortable doing it pay Newmar to do it for you. But I'm curious why you need it?

Thanks for the quick response.

Reason for the run is My pepwave will be located in the driver overhead cabinet due to external antenna (Parsec Husky 7-1) connections also in that location. I have my laptop set up at my dinette and also have a AP in that location. Plan is to use the "midship" AP for my private WIFI and connect the laptop to the AP via ethernet. Currently plan to disable pepwave WIFI and only use WIFI as WAN via the external antenna. Although my use of external WIFI will likely be pretty limited since most park WIFI is not very good and I currently do not run a VPN so basically no security when using park WIFI as WAN.

That's pretty much my setup. I have a switch on the bottom wall that an AP is plugged into which feeds Wi-Fi internal to the coach. I also have a Synology NAS in there and cables that I can connect to computers (I have a Dell dockstation there too). I also have an ethernet that goes from that area to the AV box in the bedroom that the Dish wally plugs into but I don't really use SAT any longer so that run is moot now. But there is an Apple TV in there that can use the cable if needed but it's always done well with Wi-Fi.

I have so many gadgets using Wi-Fi that turning that off isn't an option for me. TV's, Amazon Echo devices, Temp sticks, Solar, Apple TV's, Phone/iPads etc.

Ok, for us non-cognoscenti (knuckleheads) what is an AP and NAS (assuming its not a naval air station…)?

As for wire runs, I added four running lights (3 amber and 1 red) to each side of coach and wired them to the turn signals in hopes ot might make lane changes less of an ordeal. Not sure it really helped much, but running the wire through the basement compartments was easy enough.

Also added a remote controlled spotlight (Golight) on the roof and used the same driver’s side A-pillar space behind the plastic cover to run wire. I brought it down under the dash and then into the electrical bay for power. If it works out, thats how I’d get the cat 5 run in to the basement.

AP = Access Point a device that creates a wireless local area network, or WLAN. An access point connects to a wired router, switch, or hub via an Ethernet cable, and broadcasts Wi-Fi signal.

NAS = Network Attached Storage an intelligent storage device connected to your network.

Thanks - I guess Im a little more analog in my endeavors…

You are forgetting the most important of all...drone(s) emphasis on more than one in the fleet.

Well Neal made me look it up and I have to say the definition doesn't really parallel the metaphor very well.

sorry if this is off topic (new newmar owner and forum member) but how do I "have newmar pay for it" ?
I just wanted to have a parsec husky antenna installed in my newmar ventana 34, but independencerv in orlando told me they are no able to do that ? And they are a newmar dealer ? tnx

You could email [email protected] and get a quote. While they can drill a hole and create a path from roof in the problem will be how to mount the antenna. Will a mount need to be fabricated? I put mine on top of my air conditioner shrouds (covers). There are ways to mount it, it's not impossible, but something you'll have to figure out or have them figure out.

"Newmar Pay for It" If you can make that happen you are a better negotiator than I! I was able to roof mount the Parsec Husky because when I ordered my coach I paid for Newmar to run a conduit from the roof to the front cabinet over the driver seat. (Yes you can get all 7 cables with the connectors on through the 3/4 " conduit that Newmar installs)

I fabricated the mount for the Husky so it sits just above the top of the awning rails and air conditioners. Since the Parsec specifications for the Husky represented testing with a ground plane I including a 20" Dia. ground plane in the mount design.

I’m in the same boat. Have the antenna boxed on the sofa. Been looking at it for few days trying to figure out where and how to run the 7 coax wires? From a bad experience I know how bad it is to drill anywhere into the roof or the walls. There are wires in the walls all over the place.
I have an idea how to do it, but will think a bit more🤔

Thank you very much, I dont think there is the need to fabricate a mount.
I have a Parsec Husky Pro 7-1 with the Pepwave MAX Transit Pro Dual Modem. They need a hole into the ceiling to screw the Antenna down and some place to route the cable( 7 wires) and install the router.
I was thinking to do that over and in the bathroom cabinet on my Ventana 3436. The dealership independence rv in Ocala FL said they can't do that.

great to thing about that when ordering. I bought a 2017 6 months ago.
I thought about drilling the whole able the bathroom cabinet and and the router there as well.
Just don't want to drill in anything that is run there ??? Due to mobilemusthave dot com this antenna doesn't need a ground plate. I still bought one and start thing to just glue it down on my fiberglass roof .

any concerns about the spot above the bathroom cabinet ? we are "not tall" and would use that upper shelf anyway. On my ventana 3436 there is a lot of free space on the roof ? There is electricity for the lights that comes from the switch just below ? just being afraid to drill in some structural parts or wires ????

Higgins, I don’t know your bathroom setup, but mine have the AC breakers electrical panel plus lots of DC fuses in the half bath cabinet. I installed the WiFi Ranger in that cabinet and drilled up to run the antenna wires. Well, I hit the #2 AC 110V wires. Newmar fixed them but they had to remove the ceasing panel in the cabinet💰💰💰💰.
That’s why, think hard before drilling. It can be very expensive.

oh my, tnx a lot for the warning !!!!!!
