EXTERIOR COVERINGS

Restoring 1955 Tini-Home canned ham.
Debating on what to use on exterior and here are my thoughts.
Diamond plate on front of trailer up to window.
Aluminum (one piece) from front window up over roof and down back side.
Fiberglass (one piece) for both sides.
Thoughts and or suggestions?

Welcome to the RVForum @wardejii. I admire the ambition to restore this jewel of the past, please share pictures as the project progresses. Question to satisfy my curiosity, why fiberglass on sides instead of continuing with aluminum?

Wow, what a project! But if you have the time I know it will come to a rewarding conclusion. I'll be watching this one progress!

And Welcome to RVForums @wardejii.

I guess I would ask restore or rebuild? What is left inside any of the original appliances?

Main reason I guess would be that I could do it in one piece.

Welcome to RVF, @wardejii; glad to have you here with us.

I have the same question as @Kevin D Pem; "restore or rebuild?" A true "restore" will use the same materials as the original, and in the same configuration. The idea would be to make it like it was when it was new. "Rebuild," OTOH would be to make the unit fully functional once again but not necessarily the same as it was when new. Either is an admirable goal, but each would take a different direction.

It is hard for me to give much meaningful feedback without known where you want to go with this project.

If I can find my pics for my 1960 seista I rebuilt I will post them so you can see what can be done.

Great question- Rebuild (See new thread I posted) There was nothing inside but 1x and insulation. Attached is camper before demo started and next picture is what I’m hoping will look like after restoration. This is the only picture I have been able to find on Tini-Home Trailer. Was trying to find out if this was original on outside?

This was my thinking. I purchase this trailer for $100. My goal is to restore/rebuild to take to Alaska. Been there once on motorcycles.
Guess I cannot call it a restore because I have no idea what inside looked like originally.
Thinking twin bed in back, kitchen in middle and 24” bench, table in front. Keep trying to tell myself to forget trying to add any length.

Just started cutting out new or repurpose pieces to duplicate the side frames. Will use Kreg Jig to fasten. Thinking of gluing also, good idea?

I wish I could offer some assistance but you're way out of my league. Looks great though!

Just started duplicating New frames for both sides. Kreg Jig and glue? Keep it the same as old one but may add an additional window on curb side.

You are moving to fast! I have no service on weekends so can't keep up with you.

Heres the deal, I like standard frame spacing that way it is easer to make the cabnets. Won't add much weight. Second note is The restoration you show is not painted per original. They did two tone back then but it sure looks great and it matters little.

By the way the cabinets are part of the structure. I used a one piece roof. Oh let me explain, I assembled the inside roof with rafters and plywood. It makes it easer to keep the walls aligned so when the tin goes on all will align.

Just started building the frames (sides) today.
The road side wall had 2 vertical 1x3’s. Once I get the perimeter put together and windows framed, I will add more 1x3’s. I’m with you on standard frame spacing.
