I didnt know they had batteries. Mine still works but I guess I better check it.
 
RichW there are several ways to take that black housing apart, some snap, mine has 6 screws.

One ofher item to check: On mine the motor and follower ends were just held on to the roller by a couple small sheet metal screws. I guess a screw fell out of the follower end, so the other screw, being under uneven and increased stress, ripped out when deployed, causing the arm to extend and the roller to fall down against the coach, scratching the paint. I put it all back together with four screws per end and its much more robust and less likely to fail again, but its definitely something to check.
