So there is another piece of luan inside the framing? Usually they don't finish the inside compartment. If there is, cut a small hole, carefully, and then enlarge it as you go. Start with a drill and dont just shove it thru the wall, try to just penetrate it at first.
I did it and it is awesome, a great day and great way to allow the cats some additional exploration and have the cat box out of
Sight and smell !! Nothing was between the two pieces of Luan so it was an easy cut, no wires, lines or anything

I cut through the Luan, added some 1x2 dimensions lumber to the inside around the opening, and mounted two doors that butt. This allows access under the bed. Then added a piece of 1/2" OSB across the storage area to wall it off from under the bed. That way the storage area is separate from the inside storage.

If you raise the bed and look, you'll see there is nothing there. I WOULD NOT cut through the piece of 2 x 2 at the top or bottom across that area.
