I am looking for input on which would be best to use on the LTV Freedom wide body. Chains or cables. We all know chains are easier to put on and also quieter. Where as chains grab more, but are also not as quiet or smooth. I only plan chaining up if given no choice.

Given your description of how you would (hopefully never) use them, I would go with whichever is the lower cost. I have used cables for my pickup for years and they have performed fine. I do not think they are any more or less difficult to install than chains. They are much lighter to lug around and deal with in less than optimal conditions.

Cables will do less damage if they fail or wear out and come off. Also easier to store and probably good enough for the amount of snow one would be willing to drive a motorhome in. If there was enough snow to require the extra traction provided by using chains, you’d probably want to avoid it anyway. As a trucker you probably had to chain up in conditions where cables would have handled it just fine in a small motorhome. Also the newer diamond chains are a nice choice for highway use - very good traction, easy to install, and a nicer ride.
