for those who change oil yourself. Did any of you swap out drain plug with a Fumoto valve?

If so any issues? Did you put a safety cap on to prevent accidents from opening unexpectedly?
Thanks Dan

I was mildly tempted to use one on my Ventana, but after countless oil changes over the years (decades), it just didn’t seem that useful and the minimal benefit was not worth the risk of damage or failure that another connection and external plumbing pose. I never had a problem with a drain plug.

I have used fumuto valves on most equipment. I do not have one on my isx as that oil only gets changed 1x per year, and I don’t attempt to save money by testing and prolonging usage of the oil.

I do have one on order for my generator as that changes 2-3x per year.

My high usage cars all have it, as do my tractors and UTVs.

I installed one on the Dutch Star. . That way I'm not trying to drag a container with 7.5 gallons of used oil out from under the bus without making a mess. I use a regular car oil change container. When it is near full, it is dumped into one of two five gallon buckets and returned to where I bought the oil, for recycle. Most of the time, the store employees like keeping the buckets. The buckets do not earn a storage spot in the bus. Besides, old oil stinks.

Installed a Fumoto Valve on the CanyonStar., Ford V10. My only concern is the amount of threads sticking up into the oil pan. Essentially this will trap some old oil in the pan after each change by raising the drain level. Not sure if it is a lot or a little but more than the drain plug.

Residual Oil After Drain

The Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve, once installed, leaves a small amount of residual oil in the engine oil pan after an oil change. According to discussions on various forums, the residual oil left by the Fumoto valve is typically less than half a quart, which is around 2% of the total oil capacity in many vehicles Some users have reported that the valve extends approximately 1/8" to 3/16" into the oil pan, which is not enough to prevent the oil from draining properly and bringing out debris However, concerns have been raised about the valve potentially leaving a small amount of oil in the pan, which could mix with new oil during the next oil change Users have suggested that this residual oil is not a significant issue and can be managed by adding a small amount of clean oil after the drain to help flush out any remaining contaminants

I don’t trust people enough to use it. It makes it too easy for some mischievous person to drain off oil, without one’s knowledge. I know, it is unlikely, but for me, not worth the risk.

New fear unlocked…thanks for that.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Really!? How many people are going to crawl under your vehicle to see of they can drain your oil? Get real. o_O

The problem being the last bit of oil is where the contaminants will settle. They will not be flushed out with a bit of fresh oil but they will get stirred up when the engine is running.
