We have had our check engine light come on twice in recent trips. First we took it to Cummins and they said "not to worry we cleared the code" Second time we were on the way to Vegas NIRVC. They said "don't worry we cleared the code" Calls to Cummins and Spartan have turned up nothing. They say it has to do with the ABS system. Well I am not comfortable with clearing code! There is a reason for a check engine light! Has anyone experienced this? Maybe I am just to cautious or naïve. LOL

A code signifies a problem. You can also get "false codes" where the computer thinks there is a problem when there really isn't. In either case, there is a problem that needs to be rectified. Period.

Agree with @GypsyR. Certainly should be addressed by Spartan as soon as possible. I have had similar situations and I recall FL having a hard time clearing codes related to a problem on my Ventana. It was okay to drive to the service facility but I would not ignore it or hope it goes away.

Depends on the code. Do you know the exact code you got?

My fl will throw a code related to a delayed start response. This usually happens when I start engine without waiting 10 seconds after turning key on. It's a bug that FL has a fix for, but I haven't taken the time to get it flashed. I just clear the code whenever it pops up.

Ignorant rv owner that I am….how do you just “clear a code”?

I have a bidirectional code scanner that can clear most codes. Bluefire dongle is the cheapest way to do this.

A code reader than can read the codes on your particular vehicle usually also has the option to also clear or erase them. The idea being that once you've repaired repaired whatever caused the code you can then give the computer a fresh slate. Sort of. Of course this ability can also be used to temporarily hide or help ignore a problem.
Repair shops more complex readers and like to call them "scanners". They can read more than codes and actually display what data the computer is seeing. Plus they may have built in references like wiring diagrams, oscilloscope and multimeter capability, internet connections and more. They are definitely not cheap tools. A "Zeus" from Snap On would be a good example of one of the loaded ones.
